Basketball : One of the common outdoor games in the list of top five games is basket ball. The main aim of the game is to shot a bounce orange ball with stripes into the respective nets of each opponent set.Each game is played by two teams at a time with a single ball in the court. Each team has five players who play on the court that has black marks to show boundaries. Each end of the court is provided with a net to score a point.
The game was first introduced by James Naismith in the year 1891. James Naismith was a physical instructor at McGill University. He then moved to Y.M.C.A at Springfield of Massachusetts. With a slight help from a physical education specialist named Luther Hasley Gulick, he initially brought up basket ball as an indoor game or sport.
In the beginning James Naismiths idea of basketball included a soccer ball and a peach basket. The basket is kept at height of 10 feet from the ground. Dribbling was never a part of his idea. However, it became common at around 1950s when the basket ball became bouncier with better manufacturing. Also earlier, a brown ball was used so that it was more visible. By the end of the year, 1906 the peach baskets were transferred to metal hoops attached to nets and also a supporting back board.
The game is interesting to watch as well as play. Each game has referee who is in charge of keeping the game clean and out of any cheats or flaws. The referee tosses the orange ball in the air between two players of each team at the centre of the court. The player who touches and pushes the ball quick towards their team member gets the initial move of the game. The aim of the game is to get the basket ball in the opposite loop to which they are standing. Once it falls in a loop, they score a goal.
At times of draw, a player comes close to the loop while running with the ball and passing to another team mate to score a goal. Basket ball is a game of sense and technique. It mainly depends on from which position you stand and throw the ball and how your team mates react to your actions. Co ordination is highly necessary in this traditional game of throw and goal. This game has its value at different levels and is played with pride, competition and patriotism. It is a game that is very popular in schools and colleges.
