About My Favourite Festival Holi

India have a very rich tradition and this is marked by different festivals throughout the year. Festivals are the essence of India. Holi is one of the very important festivals and it is observed very grandly. It is one of the most awaited festivals too. All people of all religions and castes are found to enjoy the ambience of the season with great pomp and joy. This way it promotes love and brotherhood among all. The event is observed throughout the length of the country with enthusiasm, fun, frolic and unmatched glee. Holi falls on the full moon day of the month of phagun, which is the month of March.

Why Holi Celebrated ? History

It is celebrated on the grounds of different myths and legends by different people all over the country. But whatever be the beliefs, the spirit remains same. It marks the arrival of spring, the season of hope and joy. The nature blooms with new leaves and flowers. So overall there is a great deal of joy all around.

It’s preparations starts from a few days before main holi. Market places are full of gulaal and abeer which are names for the colors used in it. Water pistols are also seen in heaps. New ones come in innovative designs and it is a must buy for kids. Women starts making sweets and delicacies for the festival. Gujiya, Mathri and Papri are the common favorites for the festival.

Myths Behinds Holi Celebration

There are lots of legends behind the celebration of holi. Most common is about the burning of Holika, who was King Hiranyakashipu’s daughter. His own son Prahlad was a worshipper of Vishnu and because of this he demanded Holika to take Prahlad in arms and walk through fire. Holika had a boon that made her immune to fire. But in real, Holika got burned because the boon applied only when she would have been alone.

Thus holi is a significant and important festival of India and the entire country is dressed in colors for a day. It is an official holiday and therefore all people are seen enjoying the festival of color at the top of their spirit.Thus I like this festival most instead of Diwali Festival.
