Though the last day I spent in school in regular school uniform was on our last practical exam day, but officially the last day happened to be about 2 months before it. It was just before our study leave commenced for our board exams. School used to be at a walk-able distance covered in 10-15 minutes normally. But mostly i had to rush. So I cover that same distance in 5 minutes! I used to be a great fan of the band green-way. And while walking to school I used to have the song “I walk alone “on my mind.

That very last day of my school was normal. We were not knowing that it was going to be the last day.so everything was normal. Classes started after the assembly. But after mid-day break we were given off periods after that. There were no classes. So some were gossiping, some were playing and few were roaming around. Then suddenly somebody informed us that from the next day class 12 will have study leave!! We were totally not having anything in mind about it because we were expecting the same after 10-15 days. We didn’t know exactly how to react. All activities stopped and we gathered in the same place. Discussions were on between us whether it was truly our last date. Are we being pranked, etc.?

Then we came to know that teachers are arranging something for us and it was actually the last day. That’s why the classes were cancelled. They didn’t tell us before to avoid us from arranging something by spending money on that occasion. And of course mobile phones were very strictly prohibited inside the campus. It was possible that few of us would have brought for the traditional photo session of last day of school. We were very attached to each other and were feeling nostalgic of all the memories that we had together throughout our school life. It was an inexplicable dilemma. After sometime we were directed to the class and our principal and class teacher addressed us there itself. We had our formal photo shoot with our principal and class teacher. Then we had samosa and sweets. All these were happening so fast. Soon the school buses will come and everyone will be gone. We were shocked because till mid-day we did not know only that we aren’t coming from the next day. We were exchanging promises to be in touch and singing songs. Just whatever was possible without preparation.

Soon I bid goodbye to everyone. While walking home I had the same song in mind as usual. But it had a different mood now “I walk a lonely road the only one that I had ever known. Don’t know where it goes.” The separation from friends was inevitable and we will choose new ways. But these memories will always be cherished forever. Though we met at the farewell function again. But the previous day was more special.
