A martyr is one who sacrifices his life for the peace, love and protection of his country and nation. A martyr is a national hero who gave his life for the nation. The nations, who remember their heroes, are more enthusiastic. The martyrdom of some people brings peace for other people so martyrs are the real heroes. The dignity of a martyr cannot be explained in words, because it is a great achievement, great reward for that person. He sacrifices his life but he remains alive in hearts of his people.
The Martyr’s Day is therefore celebrated by nations to salute their heroes and to memorize the purpose of their sacrifice. Martyr’s day is usually celebrated on different days varying country to country. In India, this Martyr’s day is also known as “Sarvodaya Day”. Varying days are declared as “ Martyr’s day ” but 30th January is observed at national level. 30th January is celebrated as Martyr’s day to pay homage to the heroes of the Nation. This day is celebrated at national and official level in India.

The specificity of 30th January to be celebrated as National Martyr’s Day is that it is associated with the assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi) in 1948. Mahatma Gandhi is the great hero of India and considered as one of the prominent founders of India. He was assassinated in Birla during a prayer ceremony. Mahatma Gandhi worked a lot for the peace and prosperity of India so he is considered as the National Hero. Indians celebrate 30th January as the National Martyr’s Day and different programs are arranged to memorize the sacrifices and services of the Martyr’s Day. What a great sentence Mahatma Gandhi said:

Some other days like, 23rd March, 23rd June, 21st October, 17th November, and 19th November are also celebrated as Martyr’s Day and there is a whole story of sacrifice behind these days. All of the living people should have respect and love in their hearts for the Martyr’s of Nation because those were the people who sacrificed their life for the peace and security of their country.
