With the advent of globalization and visual culture, the whole world became a global village where people of different culture, lifestyle, and beliefs could interact and share their ideas for a better world. We as Indians have always coveted to become like some western countries, we have always desired to carry the lifestyle and ways of living which they possess. But every time, according to anyone’s perception a thing which stayed constant as a hurdle was the sanitation and waste management of other countries which India has always lacked. This mismanagement of waste and improper sanitation has many times played a crucial part in painting India sober less and classless. Many eminent personalities during their tour to India have undoubtedly acclaimed the beauty and diversity of such a great nation but at the same have also criticized it for such hazardous condition of waste and unhygienic environment of the nation.

MEANING
Recycling is the process to convert used materials or residue (waste) into new, useful products. This is done to reduce the use of raw materials that would have been used. Recycling also uses less energy and the great way of controlling air, water, and land pollution. There are several entities which are included in waste recycling paper waste like books, magazine, cardboards etc, plastic waste like plastic bags, water bottle, rubber bags, etc or glass waste like broken bottles, wine, and beer bottles etc. The composting or reuse of other biodegradable waste like food or garden is also called recycling.
Effective recycling starts with the household (or the place where this waste of created. In some western countries, the authorities help households with bin bags with labels on them. Households then sort out the waste themselves and place them in the right bags for collection. This makes the work less difficult. The materials are then deposited or pickup to the centers for further sorting, cleaning and reprocessing to the new materials destined to manufacture.
The recycling of waste materials is very beneficial for the society and our mother earth at the same time. It’s an alternative to the conventional disposal of waste that can save materials and helpful in reducing the greenhouse gases emissions. Recycling can even prevent the waste of potentially useful materials and reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, thereby reducing: energy usage, air pollution, and water pollution through land filling technique.
Advantages
There are some major advantages of waste recycling like it reduces pollution, reduces the greenhouse gases emission, leading to the reduction of global warming, and protects the environment. Except these obvious advantages some other benefits are mentioned below.
Judicious and Sustainable use of resources, recycling of the waste promotes sustainable usage which is certainly a need of the hour, the Conservation of natural resources, using some old and waste plants and trees for manure or other purposes, creates green jobs, develops a new sector of employment.
Disadvantages
The many of us feel overwhelmed but recycling process may not always be beneficial and has shocking effects not known to us.
The methods aren’t always cost efficient, they a high initial cost. The cost of establishment of the recycling plant is high. They may create more pollution than in the process of cleaning, storage, and transportation. The recycled products may not even last for long period of time, and eventually will be considered as a waste. The recycling sites are often unhygienic and unsafe. The recycling of waste is a great success at a small level, in houses and small firms but fails to fulfill the necessities at the industrial and hospital level.
Recycling is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the “reduce”, “reuse” and “recycle” waste hierarchy. It makes us feel proud of taking an important step towards reducing the pollution and recycling is a fun activity when done in the group, regardless of some disadvantages it still remains of paramount importance.
