What is Red Fort ?
Red Fort “If heaven can be on the face of earth, it is this, it is this, it is this”. This inscription by the Persian poet, Amir Khusro, adorn the walls of Diwan- I- Khas enclosed in the structure, the Peacock Throne was embellished here in the 17th century, it is the largest monument in Delhi and attracts hundreds of thousands visitors every year, yes, the panorama is none other than the Red Fort.
History of Red Fort ? & Who had built Red Fort ?
Located in the centre of Delhi, the fort was constructed in the year 1648 by the fifth Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, as the palace for his fortified capital Shahjahanabad, and has since served as the residence of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years, until 1857. The fort complex, built along the river Yamuna, is considered to represent the zenith of Mughal creativity and owes its spectacular, intricate and exquisite architecture to the man behind Taj Mahal in Agra, Ustad Ahmad Lahouri.
The place and its beauty later influenced several buildings in Rajasthan, Punjab, Kashmir, Braj, Rohilkhand and elsewhere. Every year on India’s Independence, that is, 15th August, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag at the RedFort and delivers a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts. A sound and light show describing the Mughal history is a major attention seeker among tourists, who also derive pleasure from the hypnotizing delicacy of the Diwan- I- Aam (Hall of common audience), Diwan- I- Khas (hall of private audience), mosque, hamam (Turkish bath) and enriching museums.
Unesco World Heritage site Red Fort
The RedFort has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site in the year 2007. The present Architectural features mixed conditions, while the water sources are dry, the walkways are crumbling and the marble inland flowers have been removed from looters, the buildings are in fairly good condition with the decorative articles still in place. All in all, the glory of this red- sandstone creation has and will continue to cherish India’s extravagant past, shining outrageously and standing vehemently.
